The Referral Program Disclosure


Thank you for your interest in Acorns! Below you will find important information about the Acorns referral program for your review and acceptance.

Acorns Advisers, LLC (“Acorns”) is an investment adviser registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”). Throughout this Referral Program Disclosure, Referring Client means your friend who sent you their referral link, who is an investment advisory client of Acorns. This invitation does not constitute a statement of your friend’s experience with, or endorsement of, Acorns. Potential New Client means an individual whom a Referring Client, using the links provided by Acorns, has invited to open an Acorns Account and who has never opened an Acorns Account before being invited by the Referring Client to do so.  In addition, this Referral Program Disclosure uses the terms “you,” “your” or “yours” to refer to you in your capacity as a Potential New Client and “we,” “us,” “our” and “ours” to refer to Acorns. As a Potential New Client, you have been invited by the Referring Client, to open an Acorns investment advisory Account (the “Referral”).


The Acorns referral program (the “Referral Program”) is open to all United States legal residents or citizens that currently reside in the United States. Exceptions are made for active Armed Services personnel that maintain a U.S. address and are temporarily overseas in connection with their service.

To open your Acorns Account, please follow the instructions in the link provided by the Referring Client and be sure to also review and accept the terms of the Acorns Program Agreement (the “Program Agreement”), specifically the Investment Advisory Agreement that is in Attachment A thereto. The Program Agreement highlights the fees associated with opening specific tiers of Acorns Accounts, as well as other terms and conditions of the available Acorns Accounts, and should be reviewed carefully. 

Acorns will credit your Acorns Invest Account with one or more “Rewards” only after you and the Referring Client have met all eligibility criteria under the terms and conditions, including specific time bound requirements, for the applicable referral promotion, which will vary by promotion. In order to receive a Reward, you must (1) open your first Acorns Account by using the special designated referral link included in your invitation received from the Referring Client; (2) be verified and accepted by Acorns as a client; (3) link a valid personal checking account as your funding source and deposit the minimum amount of $5 into your Acorns Invest Account (Acorns has discretion to waive the $5 deposit under certain conditions) and have the investment successfully settle into your Acorns Invest Account; (4) hold a minimum balance of $5 in your Acorns Portfolio Account for a minimum of 30 days; (5) maintain all of your Acorns Accounts in good standing at the time the Reward is to be invested in your Invest Account; and (6) if applicable, maintain the type of paid subscription with Acorns for the number of billing period specified by the applicable referral promotion.

For the avoidance of doubt, in the event you do not otherwise complete the designated registration process for opening an Acorns Invest Account, or such other type of account required (if you are eligible for special promotion containing “Promotion Terms”), in accordance with this Referral Program Disclosure, you will not be eligible to participate in this program or receive a Reward. For purposes of the Referral Program, a deposit of funds shall be considered “complete” once the transaction has fully settled in your account. 


Provided all eligibility criteria are met, Acorns will credit your Acorns Invest Account with the amounts and types of Reward Shares that correspond to the portfolio you select during registration and are collectively worth the Reward Amount at the time shares are purchased on the Reward Date.

You acknowledge and agree that some or all  promotions may be contingent upon the Referring Client performing certain actions, which will be set out in the applicable Promotion Terms. Acorns, at its sole discretion, may make available certain promotions with different Reward Amounts to other Acorns users or prospective users. These promotions, unless offered to you, shall have no bearing whatsoever on your Agreement or relationship with Acorns.

The Referring Client will also receive compensation from us in the form of a purchase of securities for their Acorns Invest Account when you receive a Reward.  The Referring Client may also be eligible for a promotional bonus (“Burst Offer”) if a Burst Offer is in effect and the terms and conditions of that promotion are met by the Referring Client.  Please note that the compensation paid to the Referring Client is paid by Acorns and is not paid by you. As a result of the compensation structure, the Referring Client has an incentive to refer more Referred Clients like you because they receive more Rewards when they do so.

Other Information

Acorns is not responsible for incorrect entry or other failure on your part to meet standards for qualifying for the reward specified hereunder. By choosing to participate in this rewards program, you are expressly acknowledging and agreeing that the individual who referred you to Acorns will be notified when you open a new Acorns Account, including specific updates as you complete the account opening process for your account. This may include but is not limited to your name and the status of your actions against the listed referral program criteria. It will never include your private account identification numbers, account balance, contact information, or other personal information not related to your status against listed referral program criteria.

Acorns reserves the right to either decline to grant the Reward, or to claw back the Reward or any related proceeds in the event that Acorns determines in its sole discretion that there may have been wrongful or fraudulent activity, gaming of the Referral Program, a violation of this Agreement in connection with the referral or the Referring Client or Your Acorns account, or a violation of the Program Agreement or applicable law.

Offer available to U.S. residents only. Acorns reserves the right to terminate or amend this offer or the Referral Program at any time and to refuse or recover any Reward hereunder if Acorns determines that such Reward was obtained under wrongful or fraudulent circumstances, or you participated in gaming of the Referral Program, or was awarded to you in error, or that you received this offer from Acorns in error, or that inaccurate or incomplete information was provided in opening your account, or that any terms of your Program Agreement, Advisory Agreement, Terms of Use, these terms and conditions, or any other Referral Program terms have been violated. The opening of, and deposits into, Acorns Later, Acorns Early and/or Acorns Checking are not eligible for this rewards program and do not constitute a New Client account hereunder.

Acorns reserves the right to determine in its sole discretion whether an account is closed and/or in good standing. An account in good standing for purposes of this rewards program is an account for which all required account opening documentation has been completed and verified, and is not locked, or restricted, or otherwise flagged in any way. If any of your accounts are closed or not in good standing for any reason at any time, any rewards will be forfeited.

The fees associated with your Acorns Invest Account are defined in the Acorns Program Agreement, which you will be required to review and agree to before signing up for an Acorns Invest Account.

If, for any reason, the Referral Program is not capable of running as planned, whether due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Acorns which corrupts or impacts the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Referral Program, Acorns reserves the right in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the Referral Program and/or Acorns generally, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Referral Program. In the event of termination, Acorns may in its sole discretion award Rewards (as applicable) to those who have satisfied the eligibility criteria set forth herein up until the time of termination. Acorns assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, the Referral Program. Acorns is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any computer systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received by Acorns on account of technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to any person’s computer related to or resulting from participation in the Referral Program.
