Can I choose my investments?

At this time, Acorns offers our customers the opportunity to begin investing in a managed portfolio. You do not have the option of choosing to invest in any other stocks, bonds, cryptocurrencies, or other securities through Acorns. Although, there is the option to invest up to five percent of your overall portfolio into a bitcoin-linked ETF.

This means that Acorns will choose your investments and allocate your funds to those investments based on the risk level of the portfolio. Acorns considers your financial situation before recommending a portfolio. Your age, time horizon, goals, income, net worth, and employment status are all considered.

Although you cannot choose your own investments, you can choose a more or less aggressive portfolio than our recommendation and you're free to change it at any time.  Please be aware that changing portfolios will result in Acorns selling the ETFs in your current portfolio and purchasing the ETFs for your new portfolio selection. This will cause a taxable event and you should consider how that will impact your personal tax circumstances.

Your Acorns account is a Limited Trading Authority account. You choose one of nine Acorns investment portfolios, 5 Core and 4 ESG, but Acorns decides the ETFs that make up those portfolios. Each portfolio uses different allocations of a variety of 4-6 different ETFs, according to its associated level of risk. For more info, see our portfolios here.

For more on Limited Trading Authority, please see our Customer Agreement [Program Agreement] under section A3. Limited Trading Authority to Modify and Track Portfolios.
